Shortly after graduating from FSU and returning to Orlando, Ashley earned a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix distance-learning program.
Ashley has been teaching within the private school system for four years. Within the small class setting, Ashley has developed a teaching philosophy that allows students to go beyond textbook information by creating a learning environment that is active, humorous and fun! She believes that the success of a student relies heavily on their enjoyment of coming to school every day.
Comprehension, she believes, goes far beyond the required text, when interesting details, challenging games, and new ways to learn and study are presented for all learning styles. Underlying Ashley’s teaching philosophies, she knows that it is beneficial for students to see that their teacher also enjoys being involved in the activities and knowledge learned throughout the school day.
Examples of the lessons that Ashley has created include Post-It Note Grammar, where children stick post-it notes all over the school and each other to label nouns and adjectives! Ashley’s students also attend a Presidential Party, where students come to school acting and looking like a former president for an entire day. She has developed our "Travel Journal" curriculum where students virtually travel around the world and record their journey in their journals. Ashley also developed our "Fun Card" classroom management and character education program that we use for all grade levels. Her students may find themselves building volcanoes, mummifying their classmates, building solar powered cars, solving brain teasers, reenacting the first Olympic Games or signing the Declaration of Independence with ink and quills, along with so many other experimental learning activities!
Ashley’s organization, drive and passion extend into all aspects of life. She competes in the National Breast Cancer Marathon, Columbia Muddy Buddy, and various half marathons annually, . Ashley also enjoys reading, wake boarding, skiing, and traveling with her family!
